Our First Project!! Hope you all enjoy it!

Pin It Simple Soap Making

I'm a lover of anything that fells good and smells wonderful. A few years back I had a neighbor that turned me on to glycerin soap. She had started making it for herself and her friends, but soon found that people wanted to buy it from her and I was one of those people. I really enjoy this type of soap because it is very moisturizing on my extremely dry skin. Very sadly to say my lovely neighbor lady ended up moving over 5 hours away. This left me trying to find another source for my glycerin soap fix. But not to my surprise I learned that my dear sweet neighbor friend was selling me this soap very cheep. I decided to try making glycerin soap for my self, its really very simple and inexpensive. I don't fancy mine all up like so many of the one you see sold in the novelty stores, but it definitely fells good and smells wonderful.

I am going to share a few of my favorite soap recipes with you but first lets start with some basics.

When I first got started the initial investment was a little high but most of the supplies have lasted me for a few years.
I'm a big Hobby Lobby shopper (I love the 40% off coupons) I wanted to keep it simple so I started there. They have a 32 oz pack of glycerin soap for $9.99 but I only buy it with a coupon (found on http://www.hobbylobbby.com/) so I pay $5.99. They also have all the other supplies I need, but I find that my local Health Food Store or Meijers will have a better price on the natural oils.

I bought a couple of molds, a little glycerin, fragrance, dye and few oils. I started by spraying a paper towel with Pam and then wiping the insides of my molds with it.

Then cutting out 8 of the little squares from the glycerin tub and drooped them in to a 2 cup glass measuring cup.

Microwaved for about 1 minute, 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each 30 seconds. Be careful not to over heat. It is a good idea to have all your ingredients ready to mix before you begin to melt your glycerin. Once glycerin is melted continue stirring while adding oils, dyes and fragrance.
Continue stirring gently and poor in molds. If you have a lot of bubbles, tap the cup on your counter lightly until air bubbles are gone, then poor in molds.

Let set up over night and the next day turn molds over and lightly press on the bottom of your bar and it should pop right out for you. I like to wrap in plastic wrap to keep them fresh and clean.

Exfoliating Lavender Soap
 (My personal favorite soap)
8 oz of Shea Butter Glycerin Soap
1/4 teaspoon liquid lanolin
1/4 teaspoon aloe vera concentrate
4 drops lavender oil
7 drops purple dye
1 teaspoon lavender leaves, soaked in just enough warm water to soften them.
This recipe makes 2-4 oz bars

Orange Soap with Grape Seed Oil
(another one of my favorite soaps)
8oz of Goats Milk Glycerin Soap
1/4 teaspoon orange oil
1/4 teaspoon grape seed oil
15 to 20 drops orange dye
1 teaspoon orange peel, socked in just enough warm water to soften it.
This recipe makes 2-4 oz bars

Pretty Pink Rose Soap
(Great for showing off in a dish in the bath room)
10 oz of Olive Oil Glycerin Soap
1/4 teaspoon liquid lanolin
1/4 teaspoon vitamin E
5 to 10 drops of Rose fragrance
5 to 10 drops of red dye
This recipe make 5-2oz rose shaped bars.

The gift of love Soap
(This is a great soap for giving as a gift)
13oz of Avocado Cucumber Glycerin Soap
1/4 teaspoon vitamin E
1/4/teaspoon liquid lanolin
5-10 drops of Love Spell fragrance
5-10 drops of your color choice
This make 5-2oz bars of soaps

Hope you enjoy your soap as much as I enjoy mine. Its great to experment with differant oils and soaps. I want to cautions you not to add to much oil, because it will not lather well. If you have any questions or would like more receipes just ask.
